What are we?
The Juneau High School Band Boosters is a non-profit corporation organized to
support and promote the band programs at Juneau-Douglas High School and Thunder
Mountain High School.
Who are we?
We are parents of current or former JDHS or TMHS band students and other
members of the community that wish to participate. Our officers and board of
directors are elected from our general membership. Membership is open to all
parents of current or former band students. Other people in the community can
be involved as non-voting members. Board meetings are held monthly and general
membership meetings are held twice a year, in September and May.
What do we do?
To achieve our goal of supporting and promoting the JDHS and TMHS band programs
we have identified a number of areas in which we can provide assistance.
Fundraising:
-
We help identify student fund raising projects and assist with ordering,
allocating product to students and collection of monies.
-
The Band Booster organization also does fundraising. Monies raised are
allocated to specific categories including music/equipment purchases for the
band program and band travel (not covered by the school district).
-
We identify and apply for grants.
Community Awareness:
-
Advocating for the band program in the community.
-
Providing publicity for the band concerts. The concerts provide an enjoyable
music experience for our community and promoting them allows for a wider
audience for the student musicians.
-
To have a successful high school band program there must be a successful band
program in the middle schools. We work to increase the interaction between the
high school and middle school programs.
Assisting the Band Director:
-
Measuring and ordering of band attire.
-
Assisting with planning for trips and in-school events.
-
Identification of chaperones for travel and events.
-
Providing ushers for concerts.
Information to Parents/Guardians:
-
Providing timely communication to the parents/guardians of the students about
the band program and the Band Boosters.
-
Provide written and electronic sources of information including emails,
newsletter (electronic or paper) and our web site.
Music Scholarship:
-
We award a scholarship to a graduating senior from the band program who will be
pursuing a degree in music.
-
We award scholarships to band students attending the Sitka Fine Arts Camp.
